Article and Link Retention Policy

Retention policies define the minimum guaranteed period during which an article, backlink, or editorial content will remain visible on a portal within a media network.

This guideline exists to provide clarity to clients and establish realistic expectations regarding content duration, taking into consideration the technical, editorial, and operational factors that may influence content availability over time.

1. Minimum Guaranteed Retention Period of 2 Years

Each publication includes a minimum guaranteed retention period of two (2) years.

This means that, during this period, the content will be maintained in a stable and accessible manner, without modifications that may affect its visibility, except in cases of force majeure or circumstances that may conflict with the editorial policies of the media outlet.

The 2-year period is currently considered one of the most balanced standards in the market, as it provides security for clients while recognizing that no provider can guarantee unlimited retention due to the natural risks associated with the digital environment.

2. What Happens After the 2-Year Period?

Once the guaranteed period has ended, the content is not automatically removed.

Instead, it enters a status where the provider is no longer contractually obligated to maintain it.

In most cases, articles remain published without changes; however, unavoidable situations may occur, such as:

  • Server migrations or technical restructuring
  • Website design or architecture updates
  • Sale of the domain or portal
  • Hacking incidents or security failures
  • Internal editorial changes
  • Removal of outdated content

These circumstances are common within the lifecycle of any digital platform and are beyond the provider’s control.

For this reason, establishing a maximum liability period is essential to prevent unlimited future claims.

3. Content Reinstatement or Reactivation

In specific cases — such as misunderstandings, errors, or active commercial agreements — an article or backlink may be reinstated at no additional cost.

These requests will be handled with cooperation and good faith, provided they do not conflict with editorial policies and that the request is considered reasonable within the client relationship.

4. Realistic Market Expectations

Although some clients request “permanent” links, the industry recognizes that indefinite retention cannot be guaranteed.

A defined, clear, and officially communicated period — such as the 2-year minimum guaranteed retention period — helps prevent misunderstandings and establishes a professional, transparent, and sustainable framework for all parties involved.
